Peace Building
The Bay Area School of Enterprise is holding a very special assembly Thursday, February 2nd at 2:30PM to honor the Season of Non-Violence with Peace-Building activities, music and student speeches, that will launch the 40 days of Fasting Project in solidarity with Life Academy. The fast will be accomplished through 24 hour relays, with the volunteer wearing an armband and fasting for 24 hours - the armband will be passed daily at a noon ceremony in the Big Garden with content from Peace-Builders (such as Dr. King) being read by the West Alameda E-Team and quotations displayed by the BASE Sociology class. Alternatives in Action operates community programs on three campuses, and all of our youth have been impacted by senseless street violence. This reality has touched the adults and children who partner with our youth. Home Sweet Home parents are invited to be a part of this Peace Building process by joining the noon ceremonies and/or volunteering to Fast in relay for 24 hours. Parents who cannot be present for our community activities, please commune in spirit at 12:30 daily as we pass the Peace through March 30th.
Home Sweet Home staff have been very intentional about how to engage children during the Season of Non-Violence. By holding Circles for sharing and dialogue using The Peace Book by Todd Parr as content and provocation, we seek to understand children's perception around issues of fairness and diversity and to enhance children's capacity to know joy by forging healthy peer relationships and informing their understanding of and tolerance for the many ways of learning, loving and being that families and communities reflect.
